My Favorite Scene So Far

You know that I am reading a book called "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman for my Reading Class. And my favorite scene is the scene that Scarlett left Bod. It was a bit upsetting scene because two friends that spend time together were seperated because of Scarlett's family. But all they wanted was to protect their daughter. When I understood that was Scarlett's last trip to the graveyard, where Bod lived in, I felt sorry for these two beautiful little kid. On page 60, Scarlett said to Bod, "You're brave. You are the bravest person I know, and you are my friend. I don't care if you are imaginary." That sentence made me confused because there was no proof that Bod was imaginary or not. We know that he was a baby when Jack killed his whole family except for him and we do not know whether or not he is imaginary. It is kind of surprising and confusing for us, people, who are living in their own realities. And also I find being imaginary a little symbolic. Do not you think that being imaginary represents something beyond its dictionary meaning? Maybe being imaginary symbolizes the try for being misty, like a shadow or fog. I know that we all hope to learn if Bod is imaginary or not.

That is my favorite scene because it was full of emotions of two little cute children. How would you feel if one of your friends was going away and he or she would never see your face again? My heart would be broken like it had never been broken. What about the idea of living in a graveyard? If you had a friend who lived in a  dark, scary graveyard, would you stay as friends without seeing the circumstances or would you just say that you needed space? These are some questions that related  to my favorite scene. And I liked when Bod said, "I'm always here." on page 60, before Scarlett left him.
They were just little kids with great ideas. Who could come to say a 'good-bye' for a friend instead of just going away in these days?  Anyway I thought that was my favorite scene because I hate good-byes and I know it may become hard for someone to leave.

I found this image, the girl is Scarlett and the boy is Bod. I think this scene is drawn just before Scarlett left Bod. I found this image interesting and I think this image matches well with my book. I am enjoying my book with all events, and I hope you will enjoy it too! See you soon!

  1. Hi EgeSu

Maybe you could add your book's title to your blog title to make it clear what the blog is about.

  2. Hi Ege Su,
I really liked your blog maybe because we have the same idea. I agree with you. That scene was a little upsetting and I also felt bad for them. Bod really needs Scarlett because she is his only friend other than Silas and she is REAL. I understand that Scarlett's parents are trying to protect their child but that still make me feel sad. It was very beautiful when Scarlett said that Bod was the bravest person she had known and he was her friend even if he was imaginary or not. I hate good byes too but I chose that scene because it was emotional and I love emotional scenes. I'm looking forward to see your blogs in the future. See you soon.
