Feed versus The Graveyard Book

Hi! In this post I am going to write a compare and contrast post about my book "The Graveyard Book" and my previous book "Feed."
My previous book 'Feed' takes place in the future. Its writing is like a type of a futuristic writing because of a microchip called feed, which can effect your actions, thought and feelings and make you super smart so that you can even mind chat, they can only exist in the future. (Durak, check-in #1 Literary Luminary) But my last novel 'The Graveyard Book' takes place in the past. Maybe like 1800s or 1900s. Writing shows that it takes place many many years ago, because idioms and expressions that the graveyard people use such as "nuffink" (p. 65) shows us they took place in the past and now they are lighting Bod's life by being his mother and father.  And also in Feed, there was no such complicated expressions, although it took place in the future and the technology was a long way better. (Durak, check-in #1 Literary Luminary)  The Graveyard Book is more about literature by using a sentence like "I'm between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea."(p. 91) These are some differences between my previous book "Feed" and the novel I am reading now called "The Graveyard Book." But that does not mean that there is no similaritites between my two novels. For example, the realationship betweeen a girl and a boy have always existed. In Feed Titus and Violet had a relationship, Okay, to be honest it was differrent than the one in my book between Bod and the witch girl Lisa. But many types of relationships were always there. In Feed Titus stood there with Violet and he went shopping with her one time, that can be a proof of the relationship between these two teenagers. (Durak, check-in #3 Illustrator) And in The Graveyard Book, Lisa was surprised and happy when she heard that Bod was going to buy her a headstone. On page 131 Lisa said to Bod, "It's the first nice thing anyone's done for me in five hundred years." with a hint of a goblin smile. The type of relationships might be different but they are similar, because of the emotions between the characters. And second thing that were similar in those books was how the characters were different. In Feed, there was a girl called Quendy and she had cuts all over her body, she looked really different than a normal person.(Durak, check-in #5 Literary Luminary). And in the Graveyard Book, Abanazer Bolger described it, "He looked to be seven years old, and dressed in his grandfather's clothes. His hair was long and shaggy, and he seemed extremely grave." I think these two examples help me to explain how they are similar. They had some differences and similarities and they two are really good books. I enjoy reading them and I recommend you to read these two wonderful books. :)

  1. Hi Egesu! I enjoy reading your blog. You explain the events really well. I see that your old book was completely different from The Graveyard Book but you can still find some similarities. I can say that this blog was pretty hard for me. I have some questions for you. Do you know what does nuffink mean? I don't understand some of the words in our novel and I wonder what do they mean. The language is different but I enjoy reading it. You wrote about the witch and what did Bod do for her. I think that was pretty impressive. I can also see that Titus and Violet have a good relationship. Bod doen't like the witch we know that. She is only his friend but I understand that Titus may love Violet. Thank you for those information. Hope to see you soon.
